Florida Crowned Snake

Breeding:
Lays 1-3 eggs spring or summer.

Habitat:
Sand hills, sand pine scrub, coastal dunes, and moist hammocks.

Range:
C. Florida  peninsula south of Suwannee River to Charlotte County on west coast and
Palm Beach on east.

Subspecies:
Peninsula, light collar broken by black at midline; c. ridge of Florida peninsula from
Marion County south to Polk County, separate population in Levy, Pinellas, Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
Central, no light collar, cap ends 3-4 scales behind head shields; c. Florida, Suwannee River to Hillsborough and Polk counties, and east to St. Johns River.
Coastal Dunes, broad light collar and light snout; Florida east coat from Cape Canaveral to Palm Beach County.

An efficient burrowed; may back while submerge beneath the sand by poking its head up into the sunlight. It sometimes lives together with Mole Skinks in the sandy mounds thrust up by  Pocket Gophers.
