Pine Woods Snake

Breeding:
May to August, female, deposits 2-4 eggs, 1” long. Hatchlings are about 6 ½ “ long.

Habitat:
Low marshy areas, damp pine flatwoods and hammocks, and coastal islands.

Range:
Coastal plain, North Carolina to s. Florida and west to e. Louisiana.

The secretive” yellow-lipped snake” is most often seen during spring months when the water table is high. It often narrows into the centers of damp rotting pine logs and stumps or under forest letter or loose solid. Although harmless to man, its saliva is mildly toxic to its prey- frogs and lizards.
